Conductor of the Cheshire Youth Orchestra


The conductor of the CYO is Laura Jellicoe.

Laura graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music in 1994 with a First Class Honours Degree and a Professional Performance Diploma as well as prizes for flute, piano and academic work. She immediately joined the RLPO as Sub-Principal Flute and later
became Acting principal.

She has had success in numerous competitions, winning first prize in the British Flute Society's Young Artist competition. She has performed as soloist with the City of London Sinfonia, BBC Concert Orchestra and the RLPO, and frequently gives recitals throughout the country. She is a flute tutor at the Royal Northern College of Music, and in 2005 was appointed Acting Head of Wootwind at Chetham's School of Music.

Conductor of the Cheshire Youth Training Orchestra


The Conductor of the CYTO is Tim Crooks.

Tiim Crooks was born in Wiltshire in 1981. From the age of 5 he learnt violin, and at 15 began studying with Estzer Boda-Katona at the Royal College of Music Junior department. Here Tim also studied piano with Thalia Myers.

Before higher education Tim spent a year in South East Asia, working at an orphanage in Malaysia for six months then taking a post as a boarding tutor and violin teacher a Jerudong International School in Brunei.

Tim graduated from the University of Manchester in 2003 with 1st class honours degree in Music. At university he studied violin, piano and conducting; in his final year he lead the University orchestras. He is currently guest conductor of the University of Manchester Sinfonietta.

In 2005 Tim completed his studies with Thomas Kemp at the Royal Northern College of Music and gained an MPhil in performance. He also co-runs Nomad Recordings, a Manchester based classical recording company. He was appointed musical director of the Cheshire Youth Training Orchestra in January 2004. As a freelance violinist Tim works with the Manchester Camerata, and at Covent Garden with Opera-Theatre Europe.
